When the spots go away

Pigmentation disorders are more common and intense in darker-skinned persons with vitiligo and melasma being the most frequent cases. Vitiligo is the loss of pigment at specific, sharply limited skin areas caused by the absence of epidermal melanocytes. Melasma is more likely to appear in women and manifests itself in dark brown coloured patches on the face. The condition deteriorates during pregnancy, when using oral contraceptives and due to excessive exposure to the sun.

At the SKIN centre, we take the time for a thorough examination and discussion. We strongly recommend you to avoid exposure to the sun.
